Description:

The Troy Avenue depot sits on Indianapolis's southwest side off Harding Street, just east of Indianapolis International Airport and a few minutes from the interchange of I-465 and the newly completed I-69 corridor to Evansville. Indianapolis calls itself the Crossroads of America for good reason: I-65, I-69, I-70 and I-74 all converge on the I-465 beltway, putting much of the eastern half of the country within a day's truck run. The airport is home to FedEx's second-largest hub in the world, and CSX's Belmont yard a few miles north connects the site to the national rail network, which recently added direct double-stack service from the Port of Virginia. Indianapolis is one of the largest distribution markets in the Midwest, and the south and southwest sides around the airport are thick with trucking terminals, trailer yards and logistics operators serving it. Containers arriving by rail from the East Coast ports and through Chicago need a place to be stored, inspected and repaired before they are reloaded or repositioned, and this site handles that work with chassis and container repair and container modification on site. It fits ocean carriers and leasing companies holding inventory in the Midwest, drayage carriers moving boxes between the rail ramps and the distribution centers along I-465, and shippers who need modified containers or equipment close to the beltway.
