Katie Kim grew up in real estate, construction and development. Katie would help her family work on jobsites and properties on the weekends and after school, which was the foundation for her work ethic and love for restoration. Katie went to the University of Iowa and graduated with a BS degree in Computer Science and went to work for Accenture in Accenture Technology Labs group. There Katie worked with emerging technology that was 3-5 years to market to find strategic business solutions for her clients and oversee the implementation. Katie loved working for a variety of clients, listening to their problems, and finding solutions which enabled them to have a competitive advantage. While working at Accenture, Katie and her husband Charles started The Kim Group in Chicago for their own personal real estate investments. After many years with Accenture, Katie went to work for a company called Endeca, which at the time was a small tech startup company. There Katie learned the dynamics of the startup environment.

In 2006, Katie came back to Peoria to work for the family company, Horan Construction, where she ran construction projects (healthcare, commercial, industrial, residential, municipal, schools, and many more), handled the financials for the company, and managed the office operations. With the move back home, Katie and Charles brought The Kim Group to Peoria where they expanded the services of The Kim Group to include real estate and property management services for clients.

In 2015, Katie left Horan Construction and re-launched The Kim Group with our Professional Services division which combines Katie’s love for helping people realize their dreams with all of her professional background in evaluating strategic operations and implementations, construction, development, real estate, investing, and property management. When Katie meets with clients, they quickly realize that Katie truly seeks to understand their situation – the good and the bad – and she is an advocate for their business and their goals. No two projects Katie has ever worked on are the same because the people, businesses, and situation is never the same. Katie thinks outside of the box and leverages her vast resources, network, and experience to enable and empower her clients to succeed.

In 2014, Katie achieved her Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation and became the first and only woman in central Illinois to obtain the coveted designation. In 2015, Katie received the honor of Professional Remodeler Magazine’s Top 40 under 40 award and also received WEEK’s 25 Women in Leadership award. In 2017, Katie received the honor of being a Women of Influence for InterBusiness Issues Magazine. In 2017, Cooperage 214 Development Project won the coveted Landmark Illinois Richard H. Driehaus Award for Adaptive Reuse and Keep Peoria Beautiful Award, and Trefzgers Bakery Development Project won a Keep Peoria Beautiful Award.
